![]() I remember I had to literally buy many of my pet buffing skills for my Magician off of the bazaar. In EQ, you had to actively hunt out spellbooks and abilities from vendors or get them as rare drops. Oh, plus you never found zones that didn't have maps.Įdit: Oh, let's not forget that it just gave you a complete list of spells and abilities. WoW actually had questlines that you could do for experience, and tons of areas to explore fully as a solo player without getting torn to shreds unless you play a specific character. I can't tell you how many hours I spent camping in Paludal Caverns across my characters. In EQ, quests didn't give XP and you just had to grind mobs for XP. Leveling was amazing in classic WoW, too. The ability to retrieve decayed corpses only came out the same year as WoW. Your corpse could decay if you took too long, and God help you if you die in Plain of Fear and couldn't find a necro. In EQ, when you died you could not only lose levels but you had to make a naked runt to your corpse to get your items back. It specifically poached players from EQ and gained completely new players in part because of it's relative simplicity and accessibility. WoW was never a hardcore entry in it's genre. It had to go there eventually with Blizzard. I just meant to make a point that, really we shouldn't be surprised or annoyed at mobile. I have less and less time to game as I get older. I guess what I'm saying is: we shouldn't be surprised that they are pushing Diablo into the same all-audience friendly group as the rest of their games.ĮDIT: To clarify, I don't necessarily dislike the simplicity of Blizzard games. Some of the builds that are Meta have been for 3 years. 3 does too, but not really to the same extent, because you just get given a full set, and then use the same 6-8 spells that are good with that set. ![]() I'll admit 2 had some pretty wicked customization and theory crafting. Each hero has 3-4 things to know, that's basically it.Īnd now Diablo. Overwatch is a pretty simple shooter too. I can't speak to StarCraft because I haven't played it in 10 years. ![]() You get talents, which is a nice touch, but you also get to ride a Rainbow Unicorn as the Lord of Terror. But there's no individual levels, no items to buy and no last hitting. Don't get me wrong, I actually really like HotS. How about HotS? Have you ever played any other MOBA, if so you know how dumbed down this one is. Now what, you get maybe 20, 12 that you actually use consistently? WoW has been simplifying itself since WotlK. Remember when WoW characters used to have 40+ spells and abilities? People had to buy gaming mice with 10 buttons just to raid.
